I wanted to show you plums painted by Adrian Coorte, but I had no luck finding them. Here are strawberries instead. Each of those seeds is a little jewel of varnish. If you stand before the painting, they catch the light and sparkle. It's a very lively painting. |
This is Just to Say
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast
Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
William Carlos Williams
I am going to say thank you to the librarians of Montana this morning. I'm taking this poem as my model for concision. It has always impressed me as a very grateful poem.
Today's Poetry Friday Host is Madigan McGillicuddy of Madigan Reads. Madigan has a review of Poetrees a collection of 19 poems about trees. I don't know about you, but I'm inordinately fond of trees..
