My relationship with music is pretty much like Tarzan's relationship with human language. If I stare at all those little bugs on the page long enough I'm sure they will become meaningful.* At this point, however, I remain musically illiterate.
But, like a small child who can not read yet, I love to listen--and I want others to love the stories I love.
*Then I will stumble out of the jungle with several murders and a good command of French under my belt, which I wear only to keep my knife ready at hand. (Modesty, feh!)
Same here -- and I'll bet my problem is worst than yours. I can barely read music. It makes me sick with envy to watch people breezing through sheet music, following the notes perfectly. I can pick up tunes and make up reasonable harmonies, but my illiteracy problem just shames me no end.
ReplyDeleteIs that cellist Finnish? Icelandic? Hungarian? Off to look him up...
He is Icelandic. His music is magnificent. Critics have gone so far as to say that it is too perfect...
